Best places to visit in Latvia
- Riga: This is the capital of Latvia, and it's by far one of the most popular places to visit in the country. The old town neighborhood has a medieval look, and yet most of the architecture was built at the end of the 20th century. The Centrs neighborhood is the home of roughly 800 intact art nouveau buildings.
- Sigulda: If you drive about an hour from Riga, you will find the town of Sigulda. It sits in the Gauja River Valley, which offers fantastic forest scenery plus beautiful architecture. Here you will find ruined castles, such as the Sigulda Medieval Castle Ruins and the Krimulda Castle.
- Jurmala: If you cannot go on vacation without hitting the water, then you can take a short drive to the Gulf of Riga to the town of Jurmala. This is one of the largest resort towns on the Baltic Sea and offers one of the longest stretches of sandy beaches in northern Europe. The town also has an abundance of breathtaking architecture made entirely of wood.
Winter in Latvia

The winter makes a great time to see one of the many productions offered by the Latvian National Opera and Ballet. If you want to experience the ride of a lifetime, you can make a run down one of the only bobsled tracks in the Baltics. During the winter, rides are carried out by the vucko, which translates to "soft bob."
